When I shoot: I’m not a rule follower, I love contrast, I step on rule of thirds, I care less for the critic and I love to use my phone (at times). I am more interested in what’s in front of me, the moment, the light, the feeling. Perhaps my biggest obsession is that I love to divide, change, crop, add, take away and just devour that original shot to transform it into a completely different look. . I know at times you need that natural composition piece that everyone goes ahhhhh!!! “That’s the one”. Give that guy a ribbon… Hogwash, not for me. Not to sound self centered here but I don’t care what others say or think, I really don’t. I accept everyone’s work for who they are and what they are trying to achieve. I guess what I’m trying to say is to find that which pleases you. Photography is more than art, it can be life changing. It has helped me through some difficult times in my life while trying just to stay afloat. Don’t be afraid to break rules, make someone cringe or use a phone (heaven forbid). Aloha
Note: Top two pics, Lumix LX1, severely cropped with some grunge in post. Hula: 1985, Minolta SRT – 35 film.
